The Friend Found
Many people listened to him at the Beginning of the Year Day in Milan on September 21. Hussam Abu Sini is a Catholic oncologist, of Palestinian origin, with an Israeli passport. He lives in Haifa with his wife Chiara, an Italian (whom he met while Hussam was attending university in Turin) and their two children.
With a confident and calm voice, he briefly told his story and how he gradually felt involved in the events of the CL community in the Holy Land, until he became its leader (https://youtu.be/USVN6MIkf8w). And how, reading and rereading Giussani, the Founder’s words made him “more of a husband to my wife, more of a father to my children, more of a doctor to my patients and more of a friend to everyone”. His words, even if not directly quoted, strongly echoed those of Enzo Piccinini, and it is no coincidence.
In 2017, just after returning to the Holy Land after graduating from Italy, Hussam asked the Movement if it was possible to put on YouTube the video with the English translation of Enzo’s testimony at the CLU in December 1998, a video that he had appreciated directly during a meeting in Turin. Enzo’s testimony, which evidently still accompanies him in his work, had been so significant for him that he wanted his colleagues to be able to share and understand it. For this reason he had written to the Foundation, to ask if there was a subtitled version in English. Urged by his friend from Nazareth (and thanks to the availability and authorization of the Central Archive of Communion and Liberation, which made the video available), the Enzo Piccinini Foundation prepared and published the subtitled version. In this way, that testimony could and will be able to reach an even larger number of people! The Foundation reported it in the May 2017 Newsletter.
Since then, the video (View the video) has been viewed over 80,000 times, slightly less than the number achieved by the identical video subtitled in Spanish, published ten years ago by “Bocatas – Pasión por el Hombre”.
